McDonald's.
Staff scheduling and training, rebuilt for 90 restaurants across Hungary.
A national network,
one partner.
McDonald's opened its first Hungarian restaurant in Budapest in 1988. Today the network counts 90 restaurants, 58 of them with drive-in service, and since 2019 the entire Hungarian network has been run by a single partner company.
With a plan to turn every location into a "restaurant of the future", the client needed internal tools to match - starting with how staff are scheduled and trained.
Replace the old system -
and its weak spots.
The client needed a modern, process-driven application for HR and Operations that builds on staff skills and knowledge, replaces an ageing scheduling and training system, and stays compliant with local labour regulations.
- 01Redesign the workflow
- 02Apply business-logic best practices
- 03Design a user interface built around the client's needs
- 04Develop the HR application
- 05Beta test the solution in real restaurants
- 06Test and harden the code
How we
approached it.
-
Step 01
Start from the old
We used the existing program as the baseline and extended it with new modules.
-
Step 02
Weekly reviews
Development ran in stages, with a review session with the client every week.
-
Step 03
Real-world pilot
Two test restaurants used each feature under real working conditions.
-
Step 04
Scheduling first
The most complex part - scheduling support - shipped first, followed by training modules.
Fewer errors,
less admin.
The new application flags labour-rule deviations while schedules are being built, and generates the summaries managers used to put together by hand.
Fewer scheduling errors
Deviations from labour regulations are flagged during planning, not after.
Less administration
Summaries and statements are generated automatically for managers.
Millions saved yearly
Better planning of holidays and training needs saves millions of forints a year.
Self-service for staff
Employees apply for shifts, check schedules and get payslips and targeted messages from home.
Colleagues like to use the new program because it is clearer and easier to use than before.
